Lowrance Hook2 4x Review – The Best Fishfinder GPS
The following article is meant to review the Lowrance Hook2 4x, an affordable fishfinder/navigator. While I’m not a big fan of product and equipment reviews and much prefer the development of excellent tips and tricks in this space, I do recognize that there are people out there that need help deciding on their next buy. So, I hope this review article does the job for someone out there who happens to need a fishing finder/navigator and is still on the fence about what product to get.
Users should note that this “review” doesn’t cover all aspects of hook2 4x; it focuses on my perception of the product. I’m essentially sharing what I liked about this product by its price range and what I didn’t like.
The Lowrance Hook2 4x is a compact fishfinder/navigator that has been designed for those on a budget looking for an entry-to-mid-level device. It’s designed to be easy to use and offers a simple solution for those that want to get on the water without any complicated settings.
The Hook2 4x, while an “entry-level” model of Lowrance’s line, offers some features found in more expensive models: On Screen Marker Buoys – which display commonly used fishing waypoints as markers on the water and allow one to navigate from within those markers. Also included is a built-in GPS compass, which will enable one to orientate themselves, and then return to that spot.

- A single transducer can be mounted on the transom, inside the hull, on the trolling motor, or through a scupper hole.
- The included Bullet Skimmer transducer gives you traditional 2-D sonar (fish arch) views.
The GPS device features an automatic DownScan Depth Sounder, giving you an accurate depth reading by transmitting and receiving sonar data underneath the machine. This allows you to avoid many hazards, such as reefs and sandbars, etc. The Hook2 4x also includes a Photoimaging feature, which will enable users to take photos of underwater objects that they feel are noteworthy or want to keep track of for future reference.

Another essential feature is the DualBeam PLUS – a down imaging and side imaging sonar combination that provides some very descriptive images of what’s going on underwater. The unit also features an internal GPS, which means you don’t need to take your smartphone or stand-alone GPS device along with you – as long as you have a good cellular connection, the Hook2 has everything built-in.
The Hook2 4x, while an entry-level device, is too good not to get if you are looking for a price-to-performance ratio. If you are on a budget and want the basics, this model will do the trick – it’s easy to use, reliable, and accurate for depth readings. My wife particularly likes using it, as she feels that basic fish finders can provide too much information and the Hook2 4x gives her just enough to keep her on track.
