Garmin Striker Plus 5cv Review - GPS Fishfinder with CHIRP Traditional

The Garmin Striker Plus 5cv is a fish finder from the famous company Garmin. It has many features but is well known for its high-sensitivity GPS and CHIRP sonar with 455/800 kHz. The latter means that even though this unit is not a sonar chart plotter, it does have two separate frequencies to produce clear underwater images. The memory for mapping data holds up to 2 million waypoints and 50 routes.

First Impressions

Garmin Striker Plus 5cv fishfinder

I am thrilled since I bought my Garmin Striker Plus 5cv fishfinder. This device is highly accurate, and the sonar images are clear. The first time I used it, I was impressed by its versatility. There are many options to choose from, like water temperature, bottom hardness, conductivity, etc.

It can be paired with other equipment like Yachtmate WiFi Radar for greater functionality. With just one drop of the transducer into the sea or lake, you will see everything that’s under your boat, even if there’s something as small as a 10-inch goldfish. Also, you can view your GPS chart simultaneously so that nothing will be missed out on your fishing trip!

I was surprised at how quickly the device locks on. I turn it on, and then by using basic controls like power, down, right or left buttons for direction, my boat’s transducer is already positioned. It gives me an accurate reading of depth without having to wait. The color display is fantastic with crisp images, so no problems are seeing what is underneath my boat, even if it’s something tiny like a fish.

Sound is another function that every angler would love because you will know how far away the object ahead of your ship is accurately within one meter! That distance can be critical when fishing since you may reach out before striking your catch! This Garmin Striker Plus 5cv review has given me the impression that this device is worth the money I paid for it!

Drawbacks

However, if I wish Garmin Striker Plus 5cv has, that would be a mountable transducer. It’s not included with the device and must be bought separately. This isn’t too much of an issue for someone like me who already owns a fish finder. Another thing is that you can only install or remove its cord by using a screwdriver because it cannot be detached from any other side than where its line seems to have been fixed.
