TomTom GO-920 Review

TomTom GO-920 Review

Introduction to the New TomTom GO920 & 920T

The TomTom GO 920 is the best portable GPS navigator the company has out right now. It was just released at the end of September so there is a good chance it will be sitting around the top for years to come. Some people might even call this device revolutionary with all the features it packs like a “Help Me” safety button that can help you find a hospital or contact the police(as long as you’re putting the Bluetooth technology to use) and MapShare that lets you add your own map corrections and POI’s to the TomTom community and get other people’s in return with the TomTom HOME software(another cool new feature).

I’ve tried to put the best picture of the device together that I could without actually being able to review it. Another review will be coming when it is finally released hopefully in the next few weeks so check back soon or you can preorder yours today. I’ve preordered from, I’m finding they have the lowest prices on most of the GPS equipment I’ve purchased.

The TomTom GO 920 GPS portable navigation device will come with a suction mount, a car charger, a USB cord, and the software CD with a manual also on it. You will be able to order a home charger, a cord to connect your iPod, and some choices of carrying cases separately from the unit. There is also an RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver that you can purchase but it comes standard in the GO 920T which would be cheaper. The home charger is a nice add-on if you are traveling but you should know that the desk dock to connect the unit to your computer will also charge the battery.

TomTom GO 920T Portable GPS Vehicle Navigator with Traffic Receiver

  • TomTom is the world’s largest supplier of
  • 4Gb Portable Navigation Solutions Internal Flash, 4.3-inch Color LCD Display,
  • Precharged Maps of the United States, Canada, and Europe
  • Bluetooth TeleAtlas for Hands-free Calling, PLUS Services, and Audio Output Internal
  • Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery 5 Hour

The Design of the GO920/920T

The 920 is much slimmer than the old 910 was. It measures only 3.3 inches by 4.6 inches and is 0.9 inches deep. It would easily fit into your pocket or purse and weighing only 7.8 ounces it would probably weigh less than your wallet. It packs in a pretty big 4.3″ widescreen for such a small device and has a Lithium Polymer battery that can last around 5 hours before needing to be charged. It also has 4 GB internal flash memory that stores your maps of Canada, the USA, Guam, and Europe along with the POI’s. It can also be used to hold whatever you want. You can transfer files from your computer via the USB cord or load things like mp3’s or maps from an SD card. Like the 910 the GO 920 will come with remote control and like the 720 there will be a microphone for things like recording your voice for directions and a speaker to play your voice directions, mp3’s, and phone calls. Built right into the device is an FM transmitter so if you’d prefer you can play all sounds through your car audio instead of the built-in speaker on the device.

Navigation & Core Function of the TomTom 920

While you navigate your route the TomTom GO 920 will be giving you your directions in three ways. It will actually speak the direction and distance to the next turn and then the street name in one of twenty-two available languages in the voice you chose. If you don’t like any of the voice options and can’t find one to download then you can always take some time and record them all yourself.

It will also give you written text on the screen telling you pretty much the same thing as the voice, it will give you the distance to the next turn, the direction of it, and the street name. The last way is to show you the 2D or 3D map with your car on it and the route highlighted with an arrow pointing around the next turn. While the last two are pretty standard the voice directions are a bit ahead of the pack with the highly customizable voice, the text-to-speech, and having the FM transmitter to play through your car speakers.

While you are driving your map screen showing you where you are going will have a fair amount of information on it. Along with your route being highlighted and the next turn having an arrow around it, you will see any POIs in the area shown by a symbol for the type of point it is. At the top of the screen, there are + and – buttons to zoom the map in and out.

At the side of the screen, there’s a music button if you’re using the mp3 player to access it. The name of your current street and the name of the street you’ll be turning onto are both shown. Information like your estimated time of arrival, current speed, and distance to destination are all displayed.

With the GO 920, you will never again have to worry about losing your satellite fix and having your device rendered completely useless. TomTom has started using a new technology called enhanced positioning. It uses movement and gravity sensors to calculate your position when your signal is lost.

A look at Third-Party & unit Features

There are tons of really cool features that they have packed into the TomTom GO 920. If you are unhappy with the voice of the person giving you directions you can use the TomTom HOME software (more on that later) to download new ones. There are even celebrity voices to choose from like Dennis Hopper, Curt Schilling, and Gary Busey.

If you still can’t find one you like you can record your own voice. Going on a long trip without your wife? It could be like she was right there beside you having her nagging voice tell you where to go. The microphone can also be used to input where you want to go. That’s right, you just say the city, street name, and address number, and the device will calculate your route. No more punching it into the onscreen keyboard.

The text-to-speech not only speaks the names of streets but also the names of POI’s, and traffic alerts, plus SMS messages if you are using the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is a way of wirelessly linking devices together. The remote that comes with the GO 920 uses Bluetooth to connect. If your phone has Bluetooth capabilities it will also connect to the device and you can use it to make and accept calls or messages.

One of my favorite new features TomTom has come out with is their Map Share and TomTom HOME software. Map Share is software that will allow you to make corrections to the map and add your own POI’s. This information is shared with all TomTom users so everybody always has the most up-to-date maps.

TomTom HOME allows you to automatically update your software and services for free, buy additional maps, download additional voices, preplan your trip itinerary, update your safety camera database, and receiver free traffic alerts and weather reports on your computer.

A very helpful new safety feature of the TomTom GO 920 is a menu option called “Help Me”. Pressing this button from the user interface allows you access to emergency services and roadside assistance. It can do things such as call the police or find the nearest hospital. It even gives you guides for things such as first aid.

Initial Closing Fellings on Tom Tom’s GO 920 & 920T

I can’t wait to get one of these in my hands! I suggest preordering one from now; it was the only place I could find that allowed preordering. The TomTom GO 920 is going to raise the bar for GPS travel assistants. The free auto-updating of software and services might just keep it on top forever. Who knows? All I know is this product truly deserves a 5/5 rating. Make sure to check back for a full review after I get my hands on one and we’ll see if I can find anything negative to say about it.

GIS Planning and GIS Technology

The GIS planning serves clients of hundreds of thousands of companies in literally every field of the internet. GIS uses GIS technology to make maps that can carry out analysis, solve difficult problems, and communicate with people worldwide. This GIS planning is affecting the way the world operates.

Geographic information systems are a conceptualized framework that can analyze and capture geographic data and spatial data. Geographic information system applications are computer-based tools that permit users to analyze spatial information output, build interactive queries, edit and store industrial data, non-spatial and spatial data, and visually share the results of these operations in the form of a map.

By comparing seemingly unrelated data, innovative GIS technology can help organizations and individuals comprehend spatial relationships and patterns. The geographic information system is an important part of spatial data infrastructure. The White House explained the human resources, technology, policies, standards, and related activities required to gain, utilize, process, preserve, distribute, and maintain spatial data.

GIS planning is a better plan that can make use of any information that contains location. The location can be in various ways, like ZIP code, latitude, longitude, or address. geographic positions information systems are made use of several techniques, technologies, methods, and processes. It is related to many applications and several operations related to transport or logistics, telecommunications, engineering, management, business, planning, and insurance. As a result of this, location and GIS planning intelligence applications are based on location-enabled services that depend on visualization and geographic analysis.

Geographic information system offers the ability to affiliate previously unrelated information via location as the main index variable. Magnitude and positions found in the earth’s spacetime have the capability to be recorded via the time and date of the event, along with the coordinates of x, y, and z, signifying longitude, latitude, and elevation, respectively. Every earth-centered location, distance, and spatial-temporal references need to be affiliated to one another, and finally, to a real physical distance or location. This main feature of geographic information systems has allowed new ways of scientific studies and enquires.

Several various kinds of information can be contrasted and compared by making use of GIS planning. GIS planning serves clients with services that can include industry data, growth management plans, geographic data about people like income, education level, or population. It can also include information on landscapes, such as various vegetation, soil, and streams. At the same time, it can also contain information about sites of farms, schools, and factories, or roads, electric power lines, and storm drains.

History And Development Of GIS Technology

The inventor of the first GIS tool was Roger Tomlinson. He deduced the phrase ‘ geographic information system’ when he published the scientific paper. Known as the inventor of the first GIS tool, Tomlinson, in 1963, was credited with allowing the first innovative GIS technology to be built via his work on the Canada Geographic information system. Lastly, Tomlinson built a structure for a database that can analyze and store vast quantities and different kinds of data, resulting in the Canadian government applying for its national land-use management program.

The world’s first real innovative GIS was built in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, by the federal department of forestry and rural development in 1960. It was named the CGIS, formally known as the Canada Geographic Information System, and used to manipulate, store, and analyze geographic data from the Canada Land Inventory.

Data Formats Of Geographic Information Systems

GIS planning applications contain both software and hardware systems. These applications can include different kinds of data for example digital data, industry data, cartographic data, spreadsheets, or photographic data:

  • Digital Data: You can enter digital data into geographic information systems. An example of this type of information is the computer system data gathered by satellites that show towns, forests, and towns.
  • Cartographic data: These are already in the form of a map containing information such as roads, valleys, rivers, and hills. Cartographic data may also contain mapping and survey information imputed directly to the Geographic Information System.
  • Data in spreadsheets: Innovative GIS can also contain data in table or spreadsheet form, like demographics and population. Demographics can start from income, ethnicity, and age to present internet browsing preferences and purchases.
  • Photographic data: Lastly, photographic interpretation is one of the main parts of GIS planning. Photo interpretation deals with analyzing aerial photographs and assessing the characteristics that are exhibited. Remote sensing offers another tool that can be incorporated into a geographic information system. Remote sensing can include data collected from balloons, drones, and satellites and data from imagery.

Spatial Relationships Of Geographic Information Systems

GIS planning technology can be utilized to show linear networks and spatial relationships. Spatial relationships may exhibit topography, such as streams and agricultural fields. They can also show land-use patterns, such as the positions of housing complexes and parks.

Sometimes referred to as geometric networks, Linear networks are usually represented by public utility grids, roads, and rivers in the growth management plans. A line on the map may represent a highway or road. HOWEVER, with GIS planning layers, that raid may represent the limit of a public park, school district, or some other land-use or demographic area. Using diverse data capture, a river’s linear network may be indicated on a geographic information system to signify the streamflow of various tributaries.

GIS Planning Maps

After every needed geographic data have been entered into a geographic information system, they can be joined together to give various kinds of individual maps, based on which geographic data layers are added. One of GIS technology’s common benefits is that GIS planning serves clients by comparing natural features with human activity. For example, innovative GIS maps can show what artificial features are near specific natural features, like which businesses and homes are in areas susceptible to flooding.

Revolutionizing Business with GPS and Mapping Software

Revolutionizing Business with GPS and Mapping Software

Windows Mobile

Geomicro’s software solutions stand at the intersection of a number of modern-day technological and business revolutions, and GPS is one of its premier GPS Navigation Software and GPS Mapping Software packages. In the modern business world, operating internationally on a heretofore inconceivable level, finding geographical information that is easy to access, precise, and up to date has become an absolute necessity. In the past, many companies were managed from the world’s superpower economies, like the US, the UK, and Japan, while operating in distant countries, sometimes on the opposite side of the globe. There was less global competition for international companies and there were a lot of sure bets. Recently, however, the number of globally operated companies has expanded exponentially, with companies from China, India, Saudi Arabia, and other emerging nations buying business assets even in the US itself. This new competition has made the globe a volatile marketplace.

GPS Navigation Software

Global Positioning Systems (enabling the use of GPS Navigation Software), Geographic Information Systems (creating the mapping software used as the basis of so many navigational tools now), and Web Mapping (using GPS mapping software to create up to date maps for a variety of specific purposes) have made the impossible possible, however; all of which are utilized by Geomicro’s GPS system. Managing companies on the other side of the planet, understanding conditions being experienced by your branches around the world, and getting a solid reading of potential future business opportunities has only gotten easier. With the development of these three converging technological concepts, it has become possible to tailor interactive maps to the specific needs of these organizations.

GPS by Geomicro lets companies advance their global interests conveniently, offering GPS Navigation Software, Web Mapping, and GPS Mapping Software in a single package that can be easily customized to meet the particular needs of businesses.

Geographic information systems have actually been around for centuries. In its most literal form, it simply refers to a map that indicates the importance of certain objects and regions. They actually date back to caveman days, with map paintings on the wall, showing markets, borders, and points of interest. As the world has progressed in complexity, however, so, too, have geographic information systems, providing more elaborate details specific to the particular issues of importance at the time.

In recent times, the complexity of geographical regions has grown incredibly complex, however, and picking out data using maps has grown cumbersome due to the amount of data available. Mapping software has enabled a more precise layout and created consistent information available for all that need it, but it is not easy to find the kind of accuracy required for the most complex maps. In comes global positioning systems.

GPS Precise Locations Across the Globe

With global positioning systems or GPS, users can pinpoint precise locations across the globe. It can also be used to create maps of amazing and unprecedented accuracy, and locate objects anywhere in the world. Combined with geographic information systems, this tool can help companies make highly informed decisions about their projects in Australia from the offices in London. This is the basis of GPS mapping software, which can be tailored to meet the needs of these companies. With the level of detail available, groups can make decisions based on a range of information, from the topographical map of a prospective area for real estate development to the flow of traffic in major city centers and in industrial sectors.

What finally brings this all together is web mapping, however. With the advent of the Internet, we have experienced the real birth of immediacy, redefining concepts of up-to-date to incorporate up to the second, even the millisecond. With the use of GPS and up-to-the-minute information, web mapping allows everyone to see overhead views of their house from yesterday, with their own cars sitting out front. Beyond just being able to identify things, web mapping allows us to make sense of this information in real-time, providing up-to-date navigation information that is even able to take into account recent construction and provide on-the-street views of the destination. This GPS navigation software has revolutionized the way we travel and made accessible areas that were previously avoided.

TomTom Go 520 Review – 5 Inch GPS Navigation Device with Real-Time Traffic

TomTom Go 520 Review – 5 Inch GPS Navigation Device with Real-Time Traffic

This unit is very good in the CFL, and many features are great. Even though the FM transmitter is not a good option in the CFL, since many numbers radio stations, the cable AUX option is fabulous. Routing is precise and flexible and traffic for rush hour interstate for travel is essential. Easy travel plans and evaluation criteria for the route can be expected or choose by yourself. Update maps and applications were impeccable, with daily updates, and Quickfix upgrades. Acquires satellites and sat and re-routes very fast. Added card 8 GB SDHC and it is well recognized.

As many people have said, it is best to add MP3 and files via card reader as this device has some quirks with the 8 Gb and higher SDHC cards. With a card adapter or reader, all issues are resolved. The display screen is obvious and easy to read, but it has a bit of glitter in the direct sunlight that lowers readability somewhat, but no show-stopper. In general, TomTom Go 520 is fantastic and I would recommend it to others who are interested in a feature-rich and well-made GPS.

TomTom Go 520 – 5 Inch GPS Navigation Device with Real-Time Traffic

Product Feature

  • Viable with Siri and google presently: Activate and converse with Siri or google now by tapping a catch and utilizing the receiver on your TomTom GO 520
  • Hands-free calling and cell smartphone informing: So you can keep your hands on the haggle smartphone securely away in your glove compartment
  • Objective forecast TomTom go learns your driving propensities and predicts when you’re probably going to head to visit objections saved in my places

Arrival Time

The time of arrival with IQROUTES is more accurate than Garmin’s. The nuvi continues updating the time pending on the road. I compared the arrival time in the beginning and the TomTom is more accurate. TomTom is invariably collecting travel times and update its database. When you log on to the Home Program the IQroutes from your trip will be uploaded to the TomTom server.

If someone writes a review on the GPS and informs that the routes are 100% correct so they’re deceiving, do not have the perfect GPS with perfect routes. Both routes TomTom Go 520 and nuvi 1390 LMT are selfsame. In Tomtom 520 I see the remaining time of journey, and time of arrival. I also can tell Go 520 what time I want to get to my destination. I can avoid any roads on my journey. It is not possible to avoid the road on nuvi 1390.

I use traffic to my TomTom Go 520 with ATT Tilt smartphone and it seems to work and accurate. It uses my Tilt to access the traffic on the TomTom server service via the Internet. If you have cell coverage then you need traffic data. MSN Traffic on Nuvi 1390 is not accurate and the avoidance does not work as well. The bad about the MSN Direct feature is that it does not have a good range. The service does not work in many of the distant suburbs.

  1. IQ routes more accurate than the Nuvi sat.
  2. Lane guidance works in most areas.
  3. Can avoid roads on your travel.
  4. Able to correct street names, nearby streets, one way, and many other errors is a big benefit.
  5. GPS chip has not lost reception. It lost the signal several times in the nuvi.
  6. More information on the TomTom Go 520 screen than on the Garmin nuvi 1390.

  1. The display screen is difficult to see in the sunlight.
  2. Batteries for longer less than 1 hour.
  3. Text with voice speech does not work always. Street names are not articulated as well as the Nuvi.
  4. TomTom does not have the constant reminder of the Nuvi 1390 offers. With 1390, you can close your eyes and not miss one wheel.
  5. Cannot find the address of the city like Garmin nuvi.

Garmin dezl 580 Vs. Garmin dezl 780 LMT-S Reveiws

Garmin dezl 780 LMT-S Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with MSN Direct Service versus Garmin dezl 580 Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator.

I bought both Garmin dezl 580 and Garmin dezl 780 LMT-S to find their different benefits and navigating abilities. Finally, I gave back the Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S, Display and picked up the Garmin, however, it was a very hard determination. I hope the below details could help you.

Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S, Truck GPS Navigator with 5-inch Display

Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S, Truck GPS Navigator has a 4.8-inch display (Bigger than nuvi!). This device has first-class user interfaces over every GPS brand, originally because of this information:

  1. In almost all displays, you can return to the map all the time by pushing only one button.
  2. The same, in most menus, you can return to the main menu via pushing one button.
  3. NAVU-83T also has a split display operation which shows you lane guidance apparently so you will realize which is the correct lane.
  4. This Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S, Truck GPS Navigator with 5-inch comes with the shortcuts, e.g. to GO OFFICE you assign an X shape on the display and it will take you office, it’s inessential to go to menu navigation

Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S

Product Feature

  • Simple break arranging with opportune notices for breaks, Plus up ahead street signs to propose close by eateries, rest zones
  • Truck and trailer administrations registry; even channel truck stops by brand or enhancement, for example, “flying J” or “Showers”

On the disadvantages, Garmin dezl 580 LMT-S, Truck GPS is agelong to compute or recalculate the directions, and sometimes I lose the anew calculated turn since it has to use a long time to make it out. And it used the period of time longer than the Garmin. The last, Garmin dezl also used a long period to receive a satellite signal when powered on it. However, Garmin’s mount is so fantastic and beneficial!

Garmin dezl 780 LMT-S, GPS Truck Navigator, 7″ Display

Garmin dezl 780 is a wonderful unit, it is very quick and precise navigation. And Garmin 780 can locate the POIs speedily and correctly (the NAVU-83T frequently could not locate). However, I truly love the slim size of dezl 780 LMT-S, and the important thing that the aerial is built-in, so I picked up the Garmin 780 although the price was higher.

Garmin dezl 780 LMT-S, GPS Truck Navigator, 7″ Display

Product Feature

  • Custom truck routing3 for the size, burden and weight of your truck in addition to cautions for forthcoming scaffold statures, sharp bends, steep evaluations and that’s just the beginning
  • Simple Break Planning with opportune warnings in addition to a Truck and Trailer Services registry, accessible by brand or convenience (e.g., “Flying J” or “showers”)
  • Control dēzl 780 with your voice, and appreciate Bluetooth sans hands calling, shrewd notices (by means of the free Smartphone Link application) and implicit Wi-Fi for simple guide and programming refreshes without a PC

Advantages – Garmin 780

  1. The MSN Direct service is very comfortable and I daily used this service for many things atmospheric condition, headlines, and gas prices.
  2. It has an extremely swift route computation.
  3. The POIs database is so abundant, you can certainly locate it with this device.
  4. The tourism directions are very great but you have to download them. Then you can drive the car to follow the directions that are assigned for you, informing you where locations that you should go along the trip.
  5. The capability to formulate points along a journey is so convenient. If you have 6 positions to travel in a whole day, type them all in then it will put all positions in the most effective sequence.
  6. Garmin can search the rest locations on highways. But Garmin dezl could not do this.

Garmin Drivesmart 65 Review – Controlled GPS Navigator

Garmin Drivesmart 65 Review – Controlled GPS Navigator

Bodily, the Garmin Drivesmart 65 is almost the same as its forerunner Garmin Drivesmart 61, but it is where the similitudes end. The internal software of 65 has been almost completely renovated. Garmin has listened to feedback from customers, and finally made a GPS, which can have its own against the GPS on the market today.

The display is very bright and the touchscreen is very sensitive (sometimes too). The optional power-saving feature reduces the brightness of the screen somewhat between turns when using the battery. I found this very useful and saves the battery it attracts your eye when it ‘wakes up’ to normal brightness. Because there is about five seconds before the first oral notification of the next turn, gives the visual face to face, as a verbal instruction is imminent. Touching any part of the screen to restore full brightness. The menu is well set up and intuitive. There are several things that you want to change but overall is very good.

Garmin Drivesmart 65 – Controlled GPS Navigator

Product Feature

  • Simple to utilize 6. 95″ GPS guide
  • Basic menus and splendid, simple to see maps
  • Garmin Traffic recommends backup courses of action. Reinforcement camera viable yes (BC 30 or BC 40)
  • Voice initiated and capacity to combine with a viable cell phone for hands free calling
  • HISTORY organization of prominent notable locales and U. S. public parks catalog
  • Underlying Wi Fi network for guide and programming refreshes without a PC

Audio Quality

The sound is loud and clear, even when increasing the volume, which was never necessary for me. It is a male or female voice option available for each language English, Spanish, and French. Like most units in that price range the 65 announcing real street names, together with instructions for turning. Sometimes pronunciations are off, but they get the point across.

System MP3 player and Photo Viewer is good, and do the job done. Video player handles XviD. AVI files, which limits their usefulness, but I think that this is the only GPS to have a video player so you probably can not do better elsewhere.

Now is one of the two main complaints I have with this model – No headphones/line-out jack! What is an MP3 player without? This will only listen to the simple (mono) through the speaker or FM transmitter to send signals to your car (more on that later).

POI’s (Points of Interest) and AAA

Garmin Drivesmart claims 6 million POIs resident in the base of 65 (my Audi has about 1.7 million). Find one could not be easier. You can search by name, category, and area. In addition, this is a list of names of all objects by AAA, with descriptions, reviews, and member discounts. AAA members also receive one-year warranty coverage and a button for access to local certified garages. Although not mentioned in the rather sparse instruction manual, you can import your own POI’s as Google .kml or .kmz files. To do this, you need the Garmin “Content Manager”, a free download that you’ll have if you updated the firmware.

Route Selection

Planning routes is easy, as the addition of temporary stops (which can not be done with many models of GPS). The keyboard can be configured as qwerty or ABC and it grays out unrelated letters as you type – a great feature. After selecting a destination the 65 estimated four routes: quickest, shortest, cheapest, and simplest. The fastest way is selected by default but you can examine the relative times and distances, or see the relation directions in the map before you select the best for you. Some or all of these routes Maybe the same as the criteria are often met by the same route.

A “One-Touch” menu you can save your favorite locations as icons in a simple menu. “Home”, “Previous,” “SOS” (Emergency) and the AAA “Service” are the standard icons. You can add five of your own, which can indicate the POIs lists or addresses.

Guidance – On the Road

The 4.3″ screen packs in a surprising amount of map detail without looking cluttered. You can view maps in 2D or 3D (I prefer the 3D view). Landmark buildings can also rise from the map in three dimensions, but in my rural I have not seen the field in practice. Information about the next turn is shown at the top of the screen, and I especially like the names of streets and cross – look at them and disappears. You can choose which POI categories are displayed on the map – I select restaurants and gas stations. Unlike from other devices that work in 2D and 3D mode. For major chains (BP, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, etc.) is replaced by generic symbols, corporate logos, so you can see at a glance what is coming up.

A new feature called “Lane Guidance” is one of the main reasons to choose this facility over the Garmin 760. At complicated interstate exits, it displays a visual representation of the overhead highway signs to show you which lane you need to be in for an upcoming maneuver. Garmin models with a feature called “Lane Assist” is much more expensive. The only other GPS guidance lane near this price range is NAVIGON 7200T but POIs base is small and the search was reportedly poor.

The best thing about Garmin Drivesmart 65 is all to do with its basic functions – it gets you from one place to another with the maps clear and explicit verbal instructions within a reasonable time. My Audi navigation system often fails to provide all relevant information about the upcoming turn or warn me late to react when driving in heavy traffic. Garmin Drivesmart device never wavered in this regard. In fact, some believe that the 65 direction of being too talkative, but I wanted to be sure that I’m ready for the next move, even in traffic, and this model gave me this feeling.

Garmin Drivesmart 65

Garmin Drivesmart has been completed with excellent performance at a very competitive [street] price. Therefore, despite the lack of a headset jack, I gave it five stars. I had discovered that the microphone is so poor that it is a handsfree function useless, I could go to four stars. However, it is a good choice for those who do not have Bluetooth capability and Wifi connection.

Advantages of GPS Tomtom 620

  1. In normal rural driving, I never lost a satellite signal. It uses around 30-55 seconds to search a signal on a start position, which is normal time same as other GPS, I ever used.
  2. The routing is good and led me to the point where I tried to go. And it is able to recalculate moderately fast when I go wrong, and then report a corrected route immediately.
  3. The device is very compact and virtually suits with a shirt pocket. I see this as a great travel device.
  4. You can charge this unit via computer or a USB charger – a wonderful choice if it is not used in a TomTom GO Supreme car.
  5. Change volume with one touch. Only click and drag, you do no have to click a divide OK button.
  6. The new greatest feature in this device is the Demo mode. Just type your destination and then it will reproduce a drive to that point. This feature worked very well when I have to tell everyone how to go to any place.
  7. A speed limit caution beeps for you when you drive over your setting driving speed, or if they have the maximum speed for a road. Regrettably, I only get it to caution me on the throughway. Anyway, Garmin nuvi works great even through on vicinity streets.
  8. There are many security functions that can be activated – for instance, the warning when you are close to an academy or place of worship. I’m also not sure about the usefulness of this feature, but it’s absolutely an amusing feature.
  9. Provides a wide range of colors by day and night displays. I went with the default settings that are more sufficient. In especially the views of night display is obvious and simple to read.
  10. Points of Interest are adjustable. Truly many things of this unit is user adjustable (include speed limits on roads, the road names, etc.).
  11. Lifetime Map Updates

  1. The display of real property is very cramped. Once you factor in all the “avionics”, the map display ends up being cramped. I favor the roomier GPS tomtom 620. However, I couldn’t keep 1440 in a shirt pocket.
  2. In my utilization, I usually depend on great voice reminders. The TomTom Go Supreme 6 Inch GPS Navigation Device can be either a “human” or a “computer” sound. This selection is an issue for me is that one voice can talk the name of roads while the other could not. It’s difficult to assume why the mechanics felt that this selection was essential, particularly since the TTS feature loses its worth when the name of the street couldn’t be spoken. And, figure on the sound I chose, the device differed from feet (that I love) to yards (which I have to psychically convert).
  3. The device does not automatically turn on when the car is started, or turn off when the TomTom GO Supreme car is turned off. This is bad.
  4. Magellan Lane Assist is more instructive. At most major interchange it cautions me about driving on the right lane. The 140-S seems to happen only if it believes that there is a likelihood of misunderstanding. I need extra advice, especially when going to an unknown city.
  5. The display screen is hard to see in the sunlight.
  6. The Point of Interest database is very imperfect. I couldn’t find a simple place such as Best Buy Amazon TomTom Car GPS Go Supreme Court.

The display screen dimension is moderately minuscule when equating to other GPS. A main deciding determinant is that you evaluate higher, portability, or usability. This unit conquers portability.

Most Applications of GIS – Feature and Uses

Most Applications of GIS – Feature and Uses

Applications of GIS

A Geographic Information System is a computer system for storing, capturing, analyzing, querying, and displaying data which has been geographically referenced. The data which has been geographically referenced describes both the characteristics and locations of spatial features. It is also referred to as geospatial data. The history of GIS is about 4 decades.

Websites such as map blast, mapquest, provides fast and simple maps. On these maps, the users can type in points of interest and location address to obtain the desired result, for example, data about nearby churches and schools.

The following are the applications of GIS

 Wetland Mapping

During dry periods, wetlands retain water and contribute to a healthy environment, thus keeping the water table relatively stable and high. They act to reduce flood levels during the flooding and to trap attached nutrients and suspended solids. GIS mapping software provide alternatives for wetland mapping and quickly design projects for conservation of wetland with the assistance of GIS. A combination of Remote Sensing data aids the completion of wetland mapping on different scale. Through the use of GIS map spices, information can be used to create a wetland digital data bank.

Management of Natural Resources

Through the help of GIS software applications, the water, agricultural, and forest resources can be well managed and maintained. Forest condition can be easily monitored by foresters. Agricultural land includes monitoring crop rotation, managing crop yield, etc. Water is one of the most vital constituents of the environment. The geographical distribution of water resources can be analyzed with the use of GIS. They are related to each other, i.e. tree canopy stores about 215,000 tons of carbon, and forest cover lowers the storm water runoff. GIS is also applied in aforestation.

Soil Mapping

This provides resourceful information about a particular area. It helps in understanding the suitability of soil for different land use activities. It is vital for the prevention of environmental deterioration related with the wrong use of land. GIS aids in identifying types of soil in an area and to clearly describe soil boundaries. It is used for the classification and identification of soil. Soil mapping is widely used by farmers in advanced countries to earn maximum yield and retain soil nutrients.

The other uses include, transport applications, emergency, crime analysis records management, planning, land market analysis.

The combination of GIS software with wireless technology, global positioning system (GPS), and the internet has led to the introduction of new and amazing applications. In-vehicle navigation system, vehicle drivers can locate the shortest possible routes.

The rise in demand for spatial data technology can only be satisfied with the use of computers. GIS is a representation of the simplified perception of the earth.

A GIS, unlike the traditional paper maps, can offer detailed information of features such as streams, buildings, roads, etc. In addition, the computers can quickly analyze and search the features of a map and their attributes. These advantages cannot be gotten from traditional maps.

All the data objects are represented by lines, points, and areas. Each of the spatial data has the intrinsic coordinate value.

What is Geospatial Technology?

What is Geospatial Technology

Geospatial technology is used in the collection, analysis, and storage of geographic information. Geospatial technology makes use of software in the mapping of geographic locations while assessing the effect of human activities. Geographic Information System (GIS) utilizes digital software to combine datasets and maps about socioeconomic trends and environmental events. GIS develops layered maps for a better geospatial analysis of complex data. The layering happens because each point of data is linked to a definite location on the earth. Other forms of geospatial technology include geofencing, global positioning systems GPS, and remote sensing.

Geospatial definition: Any data that is related to or indicated by a geographic location. Geospatial technology analyzes and collects geospatial data.

Types of Geospatial technology used in industrial applications:

Remote Sensing: geospatial data and satellite imagery received from airborne cameras and satellite sensors. Satellite imagery highly improves a project for GIS mapping and gives information data to help classification and analysis for modeling and geospatial assessment.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS):

This is a mapping tool for analyzing geospatial data that is georeferenced. Geographic Information Systems can be utilized to support the management of the environment for disasters and natural hazards, natural resources, global climate change, land cover, wildlife, and a host of other applications.

Global Positioning System (GPS):

This is a navigation system powered by satellite and made up of 24 satellites placed into orbit for the collection of locations and coordinates.

Nowadays, there are tons of applications in use powered by geospatial technology. Agencies, organizations, and companies all over the world make use of geospatial technology to transform maps produced manually and related descriptive records into strong digital databases. Geospatial systems which were once a tool that only the largest organizations could afford have become an affordable option for small organizations as well.

The launch of Google Maps in 2005 was one of the greatest moments in geospatial history. It made available mapping technology to a wide audience.

But the foundation of what is now known as geospatial technology today was first laid in 1832. That year, when there was cholera outbreak in Paris, Charles Picquet, a French cartographer developed one of the first maps to indicate the area of high concentration of people with the illness.

When there was an outbreak of cholera in London in 1854, John Snow, a physician improved on the works of Charles Picquet. Apart from making a map showing the location of cholera deaths, he made use of spatial analysis of the data to demonstrate the link between cholera and contaminated water sources.

Photozincography was invented by the early 1900s. It was a kind of map printing that had separate layers. Data could be visually represented by each layer on the map.

In the 1960s, Roger Tomlinson helped to develop the concept of Geographic Information System (GIS) that improved the face of traditional cartography. The development of satellites which focused on scientific ventures, commercial activities, and national security, provided pictures of human activity and the Earth’s surface for the first time, thereby revealing more ways to visually represent data.
